The Islamic Association in Finland was founded in 1986 and registered at the
beginning of 1987 as the second official Islamic religious association in
Finland, with registration approved by the Ministry of Education based on
the Finnish Freedom of Religion Act of 1923. Any Muslim residing in Finland,
regardless of their native language, can join the association. Membership
continues even if the member changes their place of residence unless they
resign. The association is the largest Islamic community and the fourth
largest religious community in Finland as of the end of 2023, including
Muslims from various ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, as well as Finnish
converts to Islam. The majority of the association’s members hold Finnish
citizenship. The association is a founding member of the Finnish Islamic
Council.
